ARAUCO will be the official sponsor of the Chilean Pavilion at Expo Shanghai 2010

Built mainly with ARAUCO wood products and exhibiting a big wooden radiata pine seed as a symbol, the Chilean pavilion at Expo Shangai 2010 uses this renewable resource, naturally low in carbon emissions, to connect to the event’s main theme: "Better city, better life ".

ARAUCO, Chile’s major forest products exporter, will be the country’s main sponsor for this exhibition fair, whose purpose is to position the country’s image in the world, particularly in the markets of Asia and China, who has become Chile’s second commercial partner, with an exchange of US$ 16 billion.

Chile’s commissioner general for Expo Shangai 2010 Hernán Somerville and ARAUCO’s CEO Matías Domeyko signed the sponsor pre-agreement, giving way to the public-private association considered a key factor for the success of this initiative.

ARAUCO has had presence in China for more than 30 years and is today one of its main markets, contributing more than US$ 1 billion in annual sales. This sponsorship offers the company an important opportunity to show the comparative and competitive advantages of Chilean wood, and particularly, the company’s products and its reliability as a provider with more than 40 years in the business.

The commissioner general stated his satisfaction upon signing this agreement and pointed out that “ARAUCO’s participation in the Chilean Pavilion is a high quality contribution which will be seen by the four million visitors expected at our pavilion during the six months it will be open”. He also said that “ARAUCO’s fine wood for export will represent the modern, sustainable and globalized country that Chile is today”.

Matías Domeyko, ARAUCO’s CEO said: “We are very proud that wood was chosen as a symbol for the pavilion, since it’s one of Chile’s great riches sourced from forest plantations that allow thousands of tons of CO2 to be offset each year; in addition to being a noble and renewable product that provides buildings with positive qualities, for their structures as well as their design, improving people’s quality of life. That’s what we would like to show in Shangai 2010”.
